Beaches
Grotto Blue Flag Beach offers safe bathing, beautiful beachcomber walks and lazy days of sun and surf.
The Klein River lagoon provides safe bathing and Voelklip Beach is popular amongst surfers and bathers alike.
There are many opportunities to explore the numerous pristine coves and fascinating rock formations along our coastline on foot, following the cliff paths.
Spectacular sunsets may be viewed from countless beautiful spots along the way.
Whale Watching
Guests may be lucky to spot whales from the cliff tops or from many of our fine local restaurants whilst enjoying a good meal and glass of wine.
Whale viewing from local Whale Watching Boat Tours in season, allow guests to get up really close to these gentle giants of the deep.
Guests may be lucky to get a unique ‘birds-eye view’ of the whales, from ‘African Wings’, a local three-seater aircraft, which offers a unique perspective of mother whales with their calves from the air.
Surfing
Adrenaline junkies may surf the waves at Voelklip Beach, kite surf at Grotto Beach, or on the lagoon on a windy day!
Surfboards may be hired and surfing lessons are available from local operators. Allow us to arrange this for you.
Hiking
There are numerous picturesque hikes along the many developed paths tracing the mountain contours. More adventurous guests may wish to try the steeper hikes up the mountain, but for anyone preferring a more sedate option, there are over 10 km of coastal paths tracing the cliff tops from town and beyond, with views that will take your breath away!
Sea-Kayaking
You could paddle your own kayak out to sea, accompanied by a knowledgeable, qualified guide on an eco-tour adventure. These tours depart from the Old Harbour daily, weather permitting. Often dolphins, seals and whales are spotted on these outings.
Shark-Cage Diving
Should guests wish to come face-to-face with a Great White Shark, a trip down ‘shark alley’ could be arranged. Tour operators leave from Kleinbaai daily, weather permitting.
Quad Biking
Accompanied quad bike tours may be arranged, following tracks through picturesque vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Quad bikers ascend to the mountain top, along Rotary Way which provides spectacular 360° views over Walker Bay.
Zip-Lining
Canopy tours through the tree tops may be arranged, for adrenaline junkies, on request.
Golfing
There are several world class golf courses in our area, Arabella and Fernkloof being our closest. Guests may try their skill, or simply absorb the breathtaking beauty of the surrounding countryside.
Wine Tours
Guests may wish to drive themselves, or simply hop aboard a ‘Wine Hopper’ bus for a fun hop-on, hop-off wine tasting experience without the worry of driving themselves back. Wines are sold directly from the cellar door at many of the local wine estates.

We would be happy to make advance bookings for memorable meals at any of the superb restaurants in our area. Diners may choose to sit in a cave, or to sip a cocktail whilst drinking in panoramic views of Walker Bay. Should guests prefer food-and-wine-pairing at a local vineyard, or a gourmet alfresco meal at a pavement café, whilst watching the passing parade, we would be pleased to make your special reservation.
Local Farmers Markets
Hermanus and the neighbouring villages showcase an array of local produce at a variety of local markets. Fun abounds with music, food and wine in the sun. Entertainment for young and old alike!
